The water resource remains an essential element for the development of society and the economy of a country. The southern shore of the Mediterranean will be one of the most exposed regions of the planet to the effects of climate change. According to the experts, the increase of the average annual temperature to more than 2 ° C before 2100 will lead to a significant reduction of the average rainfall volume of about 25%, with extreme precipitation probabilities. Add to this, a rise of water of more than 30 centimeters, the sea level and an increased risk of floods in case of storm.
This situation will be aggravated by the high demand for water access through demographic pressure and the decline in agricultural productivity that can wait up to 50%.
Sustainable management of water resources must be based on an integrated approach linking the development and protection of the natural environment, the participation of all stakeholders and the recognition of the economic and social value of water.
To meet this expectation, the school works to promote scientific and technical research to make it a lever for sustainable human development. To ensure this development, the adoption of a scientific approach for integrated management of water and environmental sectors is becoming a necessity.
